The UUM PayNet Cashless Campus project was initiated to promote a cashless society within Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) through the adoption of digital payment systems such as e-wallets, QR codes, and other cashless platforms. The project began its digitalization efforts in May 2018<\/strong>, focusing on awareness programs and incentives for students, staff, and campus entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Milestones:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Initial Implementation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Awareness campaigns and digital payment initiatives started in 2018<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 By November 1, 2022<\/strong>, all inter-departmental transactions at UUM were 100% cashless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Policy Rollout:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Circular Bendahari Bil. 6\/2024<\/strong> implemented a phased enforcement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 July 1, 2024:<\/strong> All departments (except the Treasurer\u2019s Office) ceased cash handling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 July 1, 2025:<\/strong> Full cashless enforcement across all UUM departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Partnership with PayNet:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet)<\/strong> contributed RM250,000<\/strong> in 2024 to support the implementation of the cashless policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 PayNet\u2019s objective is to foster a robust, inclusive, and efficient financial ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Achievements (2023\u20132024):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 High awareness among campus residents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 98.8%<\/strong> understand cashless transactions (TTT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 95.8%<\/strong> are aware of the policy at UUM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Transition to digital platforms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Use of DuitNow QR<\/strong> rose from 14.01% (2023)<\/strong> to 93.26% (2024)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Touch \u2019n Go<\/strong> usage increased from 57.3% (2023)<\/strong> to 89.89% (2024)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Transaction statistics (January\u2013June 2024):<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Cash transactions: 1,222<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Cashless transactions: 44,463<\/strong> (97.25%<\/strong> of total).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenges:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Internet connectivity issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Limited knowledge among some users regarding cashless systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vision for the Future:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Achieving 100% cashless transactions<\/strong> in all UUM departments by July 1, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Strengthening partnerships with external organizations to enhance financial and strategic support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Becoming a leader in digital transformation among higher education institutions in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
